Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Ceremonial 2008

What a great weekend it was with over 70 new nobles made at the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield, MO!!!
Another Hot Sands has come to pass and let me tell you, these new Nobles are incredible men. We are very lucky to have them and look forward to their participation in our clubs and units for 2009. We were lucky to have two candidates join our band to play during Ceremonial and are keeping our fingers crossed they will return to play some more.
Speaking of music, the Shrine Temple Band sounded great once again. We played some new tunes including a tribute to "South Pacific", "Scarborough Fair" and "My Sweet Angel", as well as some older favorites like "More Cowbell".
Whatever you do, do not forget the Temple Band Christmas Party around 6:30pm on Friday, December 12 in the lower level of the Shrine Mosque.

The menu...Ribeye steak, baked potato, green beans, salad and desert. All for the sum of $12.00 per person. The bar will be free as usual (whatever is left over from Ceremonial.) Be sure to let Joe and Sharon know ASAP if you can attend so they can have the right amount of food ready for our group.
We had a strong attendance for this year's ceremonial and our bar was very active this year. Thank you so much for our bar staff and their hard work. It was no small task to serve so many during this weekend's activities.
There will also be a Children's Christmas Party on Saturday, December 13th in the lower level of the Shrine from 1-3pm.
There will be no band practice in early January 2009, as there will be a business meeting at 7pm on Thursday, January 8th. The band will perform in their red jackets with Fezzes for this event in the lower level of the Shrine. The band will play around 6:30pm.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas!
Fraternally yours,
Chris Bell

Fall Schedule and Parade Announcement.
First, I want to thank all of you that were able to attend the visitation and/or services for Elvin Koger. It was very impressive to see all of the red coats. I know that Elvin's daughter and family are very appreciative of the love and support that they were shown.
As of this point in time, (Sunday afternoon) Richard Ice is still at Cox South. He was moved out of intensive care but is not really any better. His Lady Sarah told us that there is no brain activity. He is breathing on his own and is not on any life support. Keep him and his family in your prayers, that is about all we can do at this point. When Richard was stricken, he was doing what he loved to do, teaching a couple of kids to water ski. He had taught them well enough that they were able to bring the boat back to the dock and get help.
Now for the schedule.
Some of us are going to OK City for Central States. This is August 27-30.
The next Band Rehearsal is on September 3, 7:00 pm. in the Band room. Please try to attend.
Mansfield's Wilder Days Parade is on September 13. That is a Saturday. The word I have now is that parade start time is 1:00 pm. Please be there about a half hour prior to start time so we can visit and get organized. Roddy and Teresa Clark have again extended their hospitality for a get together after the parade. Sharon will contact the Ladies later to get the arrangements in order.
September 17 is a scheduled rehearsal night. In addition, we will need to elect officers for the coming year. Please try to attend. Officers will be elected by those present and voting (according to our bylaws.)
September 25, is Business Meeting. This is a Thursday night. We will begin playing about 6:00 pm as usual.
Rehearsals in October are Oct. 1 and Oct. 15.
Rehearsal in November is Nov. 5. There would ordinarily be one on Nov. 19. There will be a Business Meeting on November 20, so we might skip the rehearsal on the 19th. More at a later date.
The next event is the practice on September 3. Hope to see all of you there, until then,
Practice, practice, practice,
Joe

Not already in the Band? Would you like to play music again?
The Shrine Temple Band in Springfield, MO is in need of new band members. The Band has been playing since the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, MO was first built in the 1920's. Their numbers were great at one time and they were one of the biggest marching units in Soutwestern Missouri in the first few decades of their existance. Over the years memberships has declined and very few younger men have known this group existed.
Let's face it. Many of us played an instrument in high school and perhaps even in college, but after we grow up there are very few opportunities to play again. The opportunities that do exist are very competitive.
Please forward this along to men who might want to play in a performance group again. We are in need of those who play french horn, tuba, trumpet, trombone, saxaphone, clarinet, flute, clarinet and percussion. I would urge anyone interested to review our website for more information or to contact us.

The opportunities that do exist are very competitive. The Shrine Temple Band is a group that is perfect for that person who hasn't played in years. Clean up your old instrument and dust off your case. Sometimes the hardest part is working up the courage to show up. We are an easy going group and the majority of us had the same experiece of waking up those long forgotten musical skills. Come join us to see what we are about.
The Band plays several concerts a year, including the Memorial Day ceremonies (at the National Cemetary in Springfield, MO) and a few concerts at the Ozark Empire Fair. We are also known to do several parades a year. As Shriners, parades are always a good time for us.
For the comfort of our members we ride on a trailer now when performing, and we find this much easier than Marching for those who like to play music, but have injuries that prevent long walking.

Being a Shriner is one of the greatest causes you can join when looking at philanthropy opportunities. The money we raise through annual dues and fundraising events supports several Shrine hospitals that provide free medical care to children. Shriners are made up of all different age groups. In fact, rhere are quite a few Shriners 30 years and under in the Springfield area.
If you like dances, BBQ's, making friends, helping children and being social we may be the right group for you.For more information on being a Shriner, please review the following website:
